Amber's Cooking Collective July 2022

Jun 27, 2022 by Amber McClain Shaw, in Blog Posts

I usually choose a cookbook or three from my collection to cook from for the month. I use it as a theme to inspire me.

For July, I want easy. I want fast.

I want healthy, I want flexible.

I want to spend less time in a hot kitchen and more time doing fun summer stuff. I have a son coming home for part of the summer and I want to feed him well but don’t want to go to the pandemic-level effort of elaborate meals that take hours to shop, prep and cook. I have more to do this summer.

I picked a cookbook. It's not new or trendy, you probably don't have it, it's available used, it's by a well-known chef, it has no photos. It's not sexy or innovative.

Would you like to join me?

If so, get yourself The Minimalist Cooks at Home, Recipes that Give You More Flavor from Fewer Ingredients in Less Time, by Mark Bittman.

Your best bet is to buy it used on Amazon or get it from the library. To make sure you get the right book, search using the ISBN number 0767903617. He has several books with similar names.

This minimalist cookbook doesn’t have photos. I understand less is more, but I like photos. We eat with our eyes too! Let's share some photos.

When you make a recipe from this book in the month of July, take a beautiful photo or video of your creation and tag it with #AmbersCookingCollective on Instagram. Put the name of the cookbook (MinimalistBittman) and recipe, your review, and if you will make it again. Together we can try everything in the book! To see other people’s creations, search or follow #AmbersCookingCollective and other posts will show up.

If you enjoy this, let me know and maybe I'll post my cookbook(s) next month.
